Homeseller trends in 2022
Zillow's 2022 Consumer Housing Trends Report says that despite the pandemic, housing shifts and historic economic changes, the profile of the typical seller remains the same for now. The report looks at who's selling and where, plus the role of agents in the process.
Highlights
Seller characteristics haven't changed much over the past few years: The typical seller is 46 years old, has a partner or spouse and at least some college education, and is selling a home in the South.
While sellers increasingly use digital tools such as 3D tours, the share who use a real estate agent remains high at 88% — a six-point increase from 2021.
71% of sellers also bought a home — often an upgrade.
The share of home sellers who did not have an open house decreased in 2022 to 33%, down from 43% in 2021.
71% of sellers completed at least one home improvement before selling, though younger sellers were more likely to do improvements than sellers over 60.
