Bright MLS CTO Frank Major has died
Frank Major is remembered as a “smart and kind” leader who served on the board of RESO and Byte Back, an organization working to close the digital divide.
Bright MLS CTO Frank Major died unexpectedly on Thursday, leaving a legacy of technical expertise, strategic thought and engaging humanity.
"Frank was a really smart and kind man," said Brian Donnellan, President and CEO of Bright MLS. "He will be dearly missed."
He was 52 years old and is survived by his wife Aisha and their children.
Major joined Bright MLS in 2019 and soon after became a board member for the Real Estate Standards Organization (RESO).
Before moving into real estate, Major was chief information officer with Amify, where he built a cloud-native platform for Amazon marketplace sellers, and in the financial space. He held five patents.
Byte Back, an organization that works to close the digital divide by supporting under-resourced communities, was near and dear to Major's heart, and he served on its board.
As CTO of Bright MLS, Major led the data science, software engineering, and technology and digital product teams. He was hailed for his deep understanding of, in Donnellan's words, "what clear technical standards mean to the thousands of organizations who comprise the entire real estate marketplace."
The impact tech can have on the success of a business and an industry — and the lives of everyday people — meant a great deal to Major. In promoting his candidacy for the RESO board, Major talked about how "awesome" it is to be a part of facilitating a home purchase, the biggest transaction in most people's lives.
